Welcome to October!

This month, something special is happening all around Tucson! After researching the Cancer Conquerors through our website, the Eegee's Corporation contacted us and asked the Tucson Cancer Conquerors to be their highlighted organization for Breast Cancer Awareness Month! In recognition of TCC as a local support organization in the service of cancer survivors, they have generously offered to donate a portion of the proceeds from their October sales of Pink Lemonade Eegees and the amount collected in their coin canisters to TCC. We are honored and grateful for their selection of our group. They are doing a lot of promotion, so you will see our name and logo out and about. Please post and tell your friends to enjoy a Pink Lemonade Eegees to support our group! A huge thank you to Eegees for recognizing TCC and our members!

But wait… there's more!  Sixty members attended September’s Friday luncheon at Loew's Ventana Canyon Resort with Chef Ken. The Chef and his wonderful staff treated us to informative cooking demos, a delicious healthy lunch, and a fascinating Back of the House Tour.

As if that wasn’t enough, the next morning Chef Ken showed up at Felicia’s Farm at the crack of dawn with his son Austin and his crew to set up for our Farm to Table Event. The Cancer Conquerors walked – with their chopping knives - from Brandi Fenton Park to the farm where they were greeted by Chef Ken with fresh watermelon juice and an educational tour of our garden. After harvesting produce from the garden, Chef Ken entertained us with his culinary skills which he patiently tried to pass on to our members. We chopped veggies and herbs, cracked eggs and created our very own frittatas with Chef's help. Everyone had a wonderful time and a delicious, healthy breakfast! We cannot thank Chef Ken enough for the generous gift of his time, talents, and support.  A huge thanks to Liz Almli, Dawn Messer, and the Garden Committee for making this all happen.

The Cancer Conquerors were also proud to support the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC) Teal Tea by hosting an information table and attending this wonderful annual event. Our partnership with NOCC is something we appreciate, and we thank them for their dedicated work.

See you at Exercise Class, Coffee Café, Lunch, Dinner, Social Hour, and the Garden!

With gratitude,

The Tucson Cancer Conquerors Board

TCC Garden News

The September garden event with Chef Ken was great fun, but now it’s time to clear to get ready for our fall crop.

Our two new raised beds have been prepared and planted. We have lots of things sprouting up: radishes, carrots, beets, kohlrabi, lettuce, arugula, swiss chard, kale, and more! We're also going to have one in ground bed for larger plants such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, etc.

We can always use more helping hands, so please click here to email Master Gardener Dawn if you would like to help with the TCC Garden.

Mindful Quote of the Month

The best things in life are nearest: Breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of right just before you. Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life’s plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things in life. ~Robert Louis Stevenson
