Hello Conquerors!

We hope you all had a blessed Thanksgiving!

The Cancer Conquerors started off November with our quarterly educational program on Personalized Medicine with Dr. Nicole Scovis. She spoke on pharmacogenomics and the impact of our individual genetics on treatment therapies for depression, anxiety, insomnia and pain. One of our missions at TCC is to keep our members informed and up to date on the encouraging and ever changing advances in medicine that make our lives better.

Members were also busy preparing for our TCC December events. Our annual Holiday Luncheon is a wonderful time to share holiday cheer with friends and family and to reminisce with our slideshow our many adventures over the last year.

This is the first year TCC will be hosting the Holiday High Tea and with the help of Chef Ken Harvey at Loews Ventana Canyon resort,  this is a sold out event! All of our activities would not be possible without the help of our incredible TCC volunteers.  Thank you!!

All of our many programs would not be possible without the amazing support of our community partners. This month we would like to thank eegee’s for selecting the Tucson Cancer Conquerors to be the recipient of funds from their Drink Pink For a Cause campaign. If you haven't enjoyed an eegee's, you are missing out! Life really is better with eegee's...

The weather is cooling off now and is just perfect for Hiking, Gardening, Get Fit Class and Mindful Meandering! Getting active is more fun with friends and outdoor activity is a great way to balance your holiday indulgences. Be sure to pay us a visit…

We wish you a holiday season full of good health and joy!

 TCC Get Active News

Get Fit classes are held at Brandi Fenton Park Tuesday evenings at 5:30 PM and Saturday mornings at 8:00 AM.

Why do we lift weights?

Weightlifting builds muscle. Muscles use up more energy than fat, increasing our resting metabolic rate. Weight bearing exercises also strengthen bone which is made vulnerable by age and cancer treatments. Don’t have your own weights? We do! Come and join us!

Click here to read the full article about weight lifting at Healthline.com.

Just a reminder that Get Fit includes 2 classes per week! The Tuesday night class is smaller so we have the opportunity to play with more of our fitness equipment. Its important to change things up so that your mind stays interested and your body stays challenged. If you haven't checked out our Tuesday night class, Join us!

Join the TCC Walkers every Saturday Morning!

If you can walk, you can do it. You just need to take that first step and GET MOVING. We have something for everyone so bring a friend and join the walkers at 8:00 AM every Saturday!

Organic Gardening

Garden Update

All sorts of winter vegetables are sprouting up in our new in-ground plot - radishes, beets, carrots, spinach, lettuce, kale, peas, broccoli and cabbage are all looking great! Of course along with all of our veggies, lots of grasses are also sprouting up, so weeding has been our primary gardening chore the past few weeks.

Did you know gardening has been show to reduce the risk of dementia?  Click here to read at AARP.org about more health benefits of gardening.

Sharon Overstreet has graciously agreed to be Dawn's co-chair this winter. If you're interested in helping out with the garden, please let Dawn or Sharon know..

Please consider signing up to bring Coffee Café snacks one Saturday this year. You can always partner with another member to make it easier, and you can be sure we will appreciate whatever snacks you bring! Speak to Jenny Waters for more information.

TCC Resource Room

After Coffee Café announcements, we invite you to come down to the comfy TCC Resource Room to enjoy a quiet chat or to browse and check out a book from our lending library. We also offer information about community support services and local events of interest and a Member Resource Directory. The Resource Room is open Tuesday afternoons and Saturday mornings during Get Fit classes and during Saturday Coffee Café.

The next TCC Book Groupies meeting will be Saturday, January 20th and Phyllis Geres will lead the discussion of Irena's Children: The Extraordinary Story of the Woman Who Saved 2,500 Children from the Warsaw Ghetto by Tilar J Mazzeo.
